apply force to the wrench. This could
tighten the nut more than necessary and
damage the components.
Both under-tightening and over-tightening
the wheel nuts might cause broken wheel
bolts or a cracked disc wheel and could lead
to wheel detachment. Adhere to the
specified tightening torque.

Tire Chains

Selecting Tire Chains
Chain size is determined by tire size. Use
the correct tire chain size when mounting
the tire chains.
Regulations on the use of tire chains vary
according to location and type of road.
Always check the local regulations before
installing tire chains.
Snow Chain Installation
Observe the following precautions when
installing and removing tire chains:
Pull completely out of the roadway when
installing, servicing, and removing tire
chains.
Install chains on the rear wheels only. Do
not install chains on the front wheels.
Install chains securely with no slack.
Verify that the chains do not touch any
wiring, brake lines or fuel lines.
Driving Information
When driving, accelerate the vehicle slowly
and drive at a speed suitable for road
conditions generally 30 to 50 km/h (20 to
30 mph).
Warning
Refer to the instructions supplied with
the chains.
Do not drive with a broken chain.
If there is chain failure stop
immediately and repair or remove.
Avoid driving on bumpy road surfaces
or over potholes.
Avoid sudden turns and braking.
Drive cautiously and lower speed to
that recommended by the chain
manufacturer.
If you hear the chains rub or bang
against your vehicle, stop and
retighten the chains. If this does not
work, remove the chains.

Remove the tire chains when they are
no longer needed.
Avoid driving on a dry road with chains
installed to avoid possible chain, vehicle,
and road surface damage.

If a Tire Goes Flat

When the tire goes flat while driving, ease
off the accelerator pedal, avoid hard braking,
hold on to the steering wheel firmly, and
stop the vehicle. The tire should be changed
in a safe, open location to prevent
obstructing other vehicles or pedestrians.
If you continue to drive on a flat tire,
undue force will be applied to the wheel
studs, possibly causing the studs to break
and the wheel to come off. You and
others could be seriously injured.
