The engine coolant reserve tank is located
behind the cab.
When the engine has cooled down, check to
see the fluid level in the engine coolant
reserve tank is between the MAX and MIN
lines.
If the fluid level is lower than the MIN line,
add the coolant to the MAX line. See
Adding Engine Coolant later in this section.
Check the radiator and the radiator hose for
water leakage.
Check to see if there is any trace of water
or coolant leakage on the ground where the
vehicle was parked. If you find water or
coolant leakage, contact the nearest dealer.
Warning
If your engine cooling system overheats,
see Engine Overheating 0 206. Continued
operation of the engine even for a short
time may result in a fire and the
possibility of personal injury and/or
severe vehicle damage.
You and others could be seriously injured.
The sub tank pressure cap does not need to
be removed.
Adding Engine Coolant
When the engine coolant level in the engine
coolant reserve tank is below the MIN line,
open the reserve tank cap and fill to near
the MAX line with engine coolant. Tighten
the cap securely after the engine coolant
has been replenished. Then take the
following steps:
1. Check that the engine is sufficiently
cooled.
2. Check that the coolant drain cocks of the
radiator and the engine are closed.
3. Remove the sub tank pressure cap by
turning the cap slowly and allowing any
pressure to be relieved before completely
lifting the cap.
Vehicle Care
4. Add coolant with the appropriate
concentration to the top of the sub tank
opening.
If the sub tank was empty when opened,
then after adding the coolant, squeeze
the upper radiator hose several time to
remove any trapped air.
5. Install and tighten the sub tank
pressure cap.
6. Run the engine until the engine coolant
temperature rises to normal level and
idle the engine for 10 minutes.
7. Turn off the engine. Allow the engine to
cool. Remove the sub tank pressure cap
and check the coolant level. Add coolant
again, if needed.
8. Install and tighten the sub tank
pressure cap.
Check, replenish or change the engine
coolant only after the engine has sufficiently
cooled down.
When the engine is still hot, take care to
prevent engine coolant from contact with
the exhaust manifold. Any such contact
could result in exhaust manifold damage.
