Driving and Operating
Automatic regeneration will normally occur
under the following driving conditions:
Vehicle speed is consistently above
48 km/h (30 MPH)
Engine coolant is warmed up to normal
operating temperatures
Exhaust temperature is hot and other
factors are met
During Automatic regeneration, when the
vehicle comes to a stop, the engine idle
RPMs may increase.
DPF Regeneration Start Switch
The DPF regeneration start switch is used to
initiate DPF regeneration to burn Particulate
Matter (PM).
Depressing this switch will only initiate DPF
regeneration if the DPF warning light has
come on. See Switch Regeneration
Procedure later in this section.
Continued driving without performing
required regeneration will cause the engine
check warning light and engine stop
warning light to come on. The DPF then
must be repaired at the nearest Cummins
Dealer.
DPF Regeneration Inhibit Switch
If equipped, the DPF regeneration inhibit
switch is used to inhibit active regeneration
of the DPF. Only interrupt regeneration if
absolutely necessary.
When regeneration is interrupted, the high
exhaust system temperature indicator light
will go out and the DPF warning light will
turn on.
See Interruption of Switch Regeneration
later in this section.
