threat of death or bodily injury of persons
if it is not avoided.
CAUTION!
Dangerous situation with threat of damage
to property if it is not avoided.
Unskilled or unqualified persons must receive instruction
for the operation (for PFEIFER rope calliper gauge 125
also for the assembly) according to the operating manual.
It is recommended to regularly calibrate the PFEIFER rope
calliper gauge (does not apply to PFEIFER rope calliper
gauge 125) according to VDI 2618 (or equivalent national
standards). A qualified person has to perform the calibration.
The battery of the PFEIFER rope calliper gauge cannot
be recharged. The battery must not be thrown into a fire
and must be correctly disposed of once its life cycle
has expired.
Marking the PFEIFER rope calliper gauge using electrical
marking devices cause damage.

can lead to injury if not handled properly. Jerky handling
of the measuring instrument must be avoided.

5. Description of operation

Only the basic functions are described below. For further
information about special functions (e. g. offset, lock,
operation via "menu" button), please refer to the attached
calliper gauge manufacturer's operating manual.
ON/OFF
The PFEIFER rope calliper gauges 60 & 125 feature an
"Auto ON/OFF" function, i. e. the calliper gauge is auto-
matically switched on by moving the slider and swit-
ches off automatically after 8 minutes of non-use/no
movement. Alternatively, the calliper gauge can be
switched on with the red "0 I" button (1) and switched
off manually by keeping it pressed (> 1 second).
The PFEIFER rope calliper gauges 40 & 75 can be
switched on by briefly pressing the red „OFF/ON"
button (1) and also have an automatic switch-off
function which switches the device off after a longer
period of non-use/no movement. Alternatively, these
calliper gauges can also be switched off manually with
the red "OFF/ON" button (1) by keeping it pressed.

RESET/zeroing
To reset the PFEIFER rope calliper gauges 60 & 125 to
zero, the red "0 I" button (1) must be pressed briefly
(< 1 second). On the PFEIFER rope calliper gauges 40 &
75, the yellow button "ZERO" 8" (2b) must be pressed,
the duration of pressing is not important.
Irrespective of the calliper gauge type, before each zeroing
the calliper gauge jaws (3) should be cleaned with a cloth,
completely closed and the jaws checked using a light gap
test to ensure that they rest flat. Only when the measuring
jaws are resting flat, with no light gap, should the calliper
gauge be zeroed.
The smallest amounts of contamination caused by rope
lubricants or particles sticking to the rope (e. g. sand,
paint, plastic, metal shavings), which then stick to the
measuring jaws, can distort the measurement consider-
ably.
Millimetre/Inch
It is possible to choose between the measuring units of
millimetres and inches on the PFEIFER rope calliper gauges.
On the PFEIFER rope calliper gauge 60 & 125, the
measuring units are changed using the "mm/inch"
button or "MENU" (2a). The measuring unit selected is
shown on the display. Changing the measuring unit only
converts the numerical value, the value is not zeroed.
On the PFEIFER rope calliper gauge 40 & 75, the mea-
suring units are changed by pressing the green "mm/
inch" button (2c). The measuring unit selected is shown
on the display to the right of the numerical value. Chan-
ging the measuring unit only converts the numerical
value, the value is not zeroed.
