2. Intended use

PFEIFER rope calliper gauges are used to correctly
determine the actual rope diameter within the specified
rope diameter range.
Any other use (according to a "normal" calliper gauge)
to determine the dimensions of other components is
possible in principle after checking the requirements
(e. g. calibration, no inside jaws).
The measuring range of the individual PFEIFER rope
calliper gauge types (40, 60, 75, 125) shall be complied
with.
DANGER!
Serious measuring errors can lead to the
misinterpretation of the rope's discarding
time or to the installation of a wrong rope.
As a result, the rope may tear or the load
may fall.
Application area:
The operating temperature range of the PFEIFER rope
calliper gauge is +10 °C to +40 °C.
The storage temperature of the PFEIFER rope calliper
gauge must not leave the range from –10 °C to +60 °C.
The PFEIFER rope calliper gauges 60 & 125 have
an IP67 certification and are therefore generally well
protected against dirt and moisture. Cleaning in accor-
dance with Section 10 is nevertheless necessary when
required
The PFEIFER rope calliper gauges 40 & 75 have no IP
classification and must therefore be protected against
the influences of dirt and moisture.
3. Legal and normative
principles and regulations
The measurement of the rope diameter is described
according to EN 12385-1 and ISO 4309.
For wear inspection and discarding time during operation
according to ISO 4309, no specific measuring accuracy of
the measuring instrument is required. As a consequence,
all PFEIFER rope calliper gauges are designed and suitable
for this.
The PFEIFER rope calliper gauge 60, furthermore, keeps
to the measuring accuracy of the measuring instrument
according to EN 12385-1 or exceeds this. This calliper
gauge is recommended for high-precision measurement
in the production and incoming goods inspection of
highly demanding ropes in terms of multi-layer winding.
It is recommended to calibrate the PFEIFER rope calliper
gauge according to VDI 2618 (or equivalent national
standards)
For the assessment, evaluation and documentation of the
measured rope diameter or corresponding test intervals
for measuring the rope diameter, please refer to the
PFEIFER original user's guide "Stranded ropes for general
lifting applications in accordance with DIN EN 12385-4".
