Guidelines for using the spine board
Before using the spine board, you must carefully read this manual and the manual for all
accessories that are intended to be used with the board, such as belts, spider belts or head
immobilizers.
You must strictly follow the guidelines of your emergency department and/or local and
regional guidelines before placing the patient on the spinal board.
Carefully assess the need for use of a cervical collar, spider belt, head immobilizer, or other
means of immobilization in addition to restraint belts.
The PA-252 tabletop is equipped with 4 zones of different
depths in relation to the patient's support surface. The
correct position in each service must be evaluated by the
lifeguard / rescue professional, to improve the alignment of
the cervical tract, compensating for the different occipital
prominence typical of pediatric patients.
To separate the pediatric part of the adult spine board (in
the PA-252 model), turn the red stops 90° to be able to
remove the pediatric board.
When you have finished using it, place it back inside the adult board, turning the same stops
on which you had previously turned, making sure that the two devices are correctly joined,
as shown in the image.
Spinal boards can be used to make preliminary diagnoses to X-rays, to confirm or refute the
hypothesis of the presence of spinal lesions in the patient. Still, these devices should not be
used in MRI settings.
Immobilization of the patient:
After positioning the patient, it is essential to apply the support belts or spider belts according
to the procedure established for these devices.
It will be the lifeguard / rescue professional who must decide if the patient's condition requires
or allows it to apply the head, ankle or cervical collar immobilizer until ensuring adequate and
safe immobilization for transport.
Once the patient is immobilized, the device can be lifted and transported. Never use cranes,
slings or other means to lift the device.
Lifting is only allowed manually and by an adequate number of operators based on the
patient's weight. (Consider also the weight of the device and any accessories that may be
present) The experience gathered by Promeba advises to carry out the lifting with four (4)
technicians if possible, although in some cases two (2) would be sufficient.
