Alternator
In order to avoid damage to the alternator,
observe the following instructions:
While the engine is running
D Do not de-energize the main battery
switch!
D Do not disconnect the battery or pole
terminals or the cables!
D If, durig operation, the battery charge
lamp suddenly lights up, stop the en-
gine immediately and remedy the fault
in the electrical system!
D Do not run the engine unless the bat-
tery charge control is in satisfactory
order!
D Do not short-circuit the connections of
the alternator with those of the regula-
tor or said connections with ground, not
even by briefly bringing the connections
into contact!
D Do not operate the alternator without
battery connection!
Commissioning and operation

Shutting down

Disengage the gearbox clutch and move
the shut-down lever to "stop". After the en-
gine has been running at a high load
level, do not shut it down immediately but
allow it to idle about 5 minutes so that
temperatures may equalize.
Remove key from starting lock.
Caution:
Ensure that the engine can not be
started by unauthorized persons.
Temporary decommissioning of
engines
Temporary anti-corrosion protection ac-
cording to MAN works norm M 3069 is re-
quired for engines which are to be put out
of service for fairly long periods.
The works standard can be obtained from
our After-Sales Service department in Nu-
remberg.
