Customizing SlingPlayer Mobile

Encoding Options

You may never need to adjust the streaming characteristics of Slingbox.
However, you can fine-tune SlingStream based on the type of content
you're currently viewing.
To change the encoding options:
1. You must stop watching TV as you can change these settings only
when you are not streaming.
2. Select Menu > Player Options > Encoding.
The Encoding Parameters screen appears.
3. Update the following settings in the Encoding tab to change the
streaming options:
• Automatic. Select Enable SlingStream. See "Automatic
Encoding" on page 26.
• Manual. Clear Enable SlingStream. See "Manual Encoding" on page 26.
4. Select Done.

Automatic Encoding

SlingPlayer Mobile comes with three encoding options. Select the one that suits your viewing
requirement.
• Low Action: Best used when the content you are watching has little action but many details.
• Medium Action: Works best for most content, and should be your default setting.
• High Action: Use during action movies and sporting events.

Manual Encoding

If you would like to make manual adjustments to your TV viewing experience, clear Enable
SlingStream. When in manual mode, SlingStream does not actively monitor or adjust the video
quality. If your network conditions vary, you may experience sub-optimal video streaming. You'll
probably always want to use SlingStream mode, but feel free to tweak the following settings:
• Video bitrate. The higher the video bitrate the higher the quality of video. Enter a bitrate
between 20 and 600.
• Video FPS. Anything below 10 frames per second looks jumpy; above 20 looks fairly smooth.
• I-Frame. While streaming video over a network, compression technologies are used to show the
incremental difference between each frame, and I-frames are used to help keep the video looking
normal. When intervals are shorter, the video quality is higher but uses more bandwidth. You
may be able to increase to higher numbers and still have very good video quality. Enter an interval
between 1 and 30.
• Video Resolution. This is the size of the picture that is being encoded. Unless you have a screen
that is 640x320, use 224x176 as your default (or 256x192 for devices with display size of
320x240). In limited bitrate environment or when connection is not strong, you can select one of
the lower resolutions (160x120 or 128x96). You will likely get better picture quality in a smaller
video screen size.
