Overtaking Assistance*
Overtaking Assistance can help the driver
when overtaking other vehicles. The function
can be used with adaptive cruise control* or
Pilot Assist*.
When adaptive cruise control or Pilot Assist is
following another vehicle and the driver indi-
cates the intention to overtake by activating
86
the direction indicator
, the systems help by
accelerating the vehicle towards the vehicle
ahead before the driver's vehicle reaches the
overtaking lane.
The function then delays reducing speed in
order to avoid premature braking when the
driver's car is approaching a slower vehicle.
The function remains active until the driver's
vehicle has cleared the overtaken vehicle.
WARNING
Be aware that this function can be acti-
vated in more situations than during over-
taking, e.g. when a direction indicator is
used to indicate a change of lane or exit to
another road – the car will then accelerate
briefly.
86
On left flash only in left-hand-drive car, or right flash in right-hand-drive car.
WARNING
The function is supplementary driver
support intended to facilitate driving
and make it safer – it cannot handle all
situations in all traffic, weather and
road conditions.
The driver is advised to read all sec-
tions in the Owner's Manual that relate
to this function to learn about factors
such as its limitations and what the
driver should be aware of before using
the system.
Driver support functions are not a sub-
stitute for the driver's attention and
judgement. The driver is always
responsible for ensuring the car is
driven in a safe manner, at the appro-
priate speed, with an appropriate dis-
tance to other vehicles, and in accord-
ance with current traffic rules and reg-
ulations.
