    5.2 Guidelines for cooking with the microwave oven Instead of traditional heat sources, a microwave oven applies an electron lamp which emits electromagnetic waves. These waves, like radio waves, are invisible but their effects can be observed. Such waves can pass through materials such as glass, porcelain, artificial materials and paper.

    6. Wide, flat containers are best suited to use in the microwave oven as compared to narrow and tall ones. Food products cook evenly in flat dishes. 7. To avoid food from baking onto the edge of dishes, you may cover the edges with thin strips of aluminum foil.
