  • Page 23: Basic Operation

    2. Technical Explanation Basic Operation Outline This unit performs the following two basic operations to feed paper: 1. Through-feed operation The unit feeds to the finisher paper received from the buffer path unit. 2. Z-fold feed operation When Z-fold is specified in the host machine, this unit folds in Z-shape paper received from the buffer path unit and then feeds it to the finisher.
  • Page 24: Z-Fold Operation

    2. Technical Explanation Z-fold Operation 1. Registration correction operation Paper received from the buffer path unit is fed to the registration roller. Then, the paper stops and forms a loop to correct paper skew. Registration Roller Paper 2. Feed operation When the pre-registration sensor (PS1) detects the leading edge of paper, the registration motor (M1) rotates forward to turn the registration roller.
  • Page 25 2. Technical Explanation 3. Fold operation When the post-fold sensor (PS6) detects the leading edge of paper, the fold motor (M2) stops. Then, the fold motor (M2) rotates backward to push the paper back toward the inlet until it stops at the folding position. The pushing plate motor (M3) rotates backward to retract the pushing plate.
  • Page 26 2. Technical Explanation...
  • Page 27 2. Technical Explanation 4. Fold-enhancing operation The registration roller and the folding roller feed the paper so that its first fold is placed at the fold-enhancing position. The fold-enhancing motor (M4) rotates forward to raise/lower the fold-enhancing holder to make the first fold crisp. Fold-enhancing Position Fold-enhancing Holder...
  • Page 28 2. Technical Explanation 5. Delivery operation The folding roller passes the paper to the finisher. When the post-fold sensor (PS6) detects the trailing edge of the paper, the pushing plate is moved back to the home position.
  • Page 29: Inlet Unit

    2. Technical Explanation Inlet Unit In the inlet unit, the registration rollers feed paper received from the buffer path unit to the folding position. When Z-fold is specified, the registration rollers stop the paper so that it forms a loop to correct paper skew. The registration roller (upper) is turned by driving the registration motor (M1) forward.
  • Page 30: Fold Unit

    2. Technical Explanation Fold Unit In the fold unit, paper fed to the folding rollers forms a loop. Then, the pushing plate pushes the looped paper into the rollers to make a Z-fold. The folding rollers are turned by driving the fold motor (M2). The paper condition is detected by the post-fold sensor (PS6). The pushing plate is moved by driving the pushing plate motor (M3).

  • Page 32: Fold-Enhancing Unit

    2. Technical Explanation Fold-enhancing Unit In the fold-enhancing unit, Z-fold paper is fed to the fold-enhancing position, where the folds are pressed by the fold-enhancing rollers to make them crisp. The fold-enhancing rollers are housed in the fold-enhancing holder fixed to the rack, which moves to press these rollers against the paper folds.

  • Page 35: Power Supply

    2. Technical Explanation Power Supply Power Supply Route The 24V and 5V are supplied from the Finisher Controller PCB. The 24V is used to drive the motors. The 5V is used to drive the sensors and IC in the Paper Folding Unit Controller PCB. The 24V to the motors is shut down when the opening of the Upper Cover is detected by the Top Cover Switch (SW1).
