Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Ibanez SW115S. In order to take full advantage of this speaker system, please carefully read and understand this manual, and save it for future reference.

Precautions during use

Cables

Use speaker cables with 1/4" plugs (see figure below). If you use a cable that is not designed as a speaker cable, the cable itself may overheat or catch fire. If a malfunction occurs in the cable, the amp head may overheat and malfunction.

Impedance

When connecting the speaker system to an amp, please check the total impedance of the speaker system that you are connecting. In particular when connecting multiple speakers, the impedance of the entire system will be less than the impedance of a single speaker cabinet. When setting up, it is important to match the impedance with the amp. Please set up your system according to the connection examples shown in this manual.
If you are unsure about how to make connections, please contact your dealer.

Power handling

When connecting the speaker system to an amp, you must check the output rating of the amp. If a signal that is larger than the rated power handling is input to a speaker unit, the speaker unit may be damaged. If this occurs, a fee will be charged to replace the speaker unit even if the system is still under warrantee.

Speaker cabinet location

Place the speaker cabinet in a stable location. The placement of the cabinet and the surroundings will affect the tone. If you are using multiple speaker cabinets, the speakers will work more efficiently as a system if the cabinets are located near each other.

Cable connections

Before you connect cables, you must turn the master volume of the amp to 0 or turn the power off. If the speaker is repeatedly subjected to the noise that occurs when a plug is inserted or removed, wires may break or other malfunctions may occur.

Care of the cabinet

To prevent the cabinet from becoming discolored or deformed, avoid using it in direct sunlight or extreme humidity. To remove dust or dirt, wipe gently with a dry cloth. Do not use alcohol, petrochemical solvents, or thinner, since these may discolor the cabinet. Do not drop the amp or otherwise subject it to physical shock, and avoid rough handling.

Names and functions for each part

Names and functions for each part

  1. Speaker units
These units reproduce the audio signal.
  2. Cabinet
This is a box that supports the speaker units. The cabinet is designed to produce optimal playback for a guitar amp, based on calculations of how the sound is reflected and interacts with itself inside the cabinet.
  3. Grill
This protects the speaker units from dust and direct impacts from external objects.
  4. Corners
    These corners protect the cabinet.
  5. Handles
Use these handles when moving the cabinet.
  6. Rubber feet, casters
Rubber feet are provided to stabilize the cabinet. The included casters are convenient when you need to transport the system.
For details on attaching the casters, refer to " Attaching the casters."
  7. Jack plate
The speaker input jack is located here.
  8. Coasters
If you place the SW100 on top of the SW115S, align the rubber feet with the coasters.
  9. Tweeter
This is a speaker for reproducing the high-frequency range. You can use the tweeter switch to turn it on/off.
  10. Port
This enhances the resonance of the low-frequency range, giving the sound greater depth.
  11. Input jack
Use a speaker cable to connect the speaker output jack(s) of your amp to these input jack(s). When you make connections, you must check that the speaker impedance, amp output, and speaker cabinet power handling are appropriate. Please note that two amps cannot simultaneously use one speaker.
  12. Tweeter switch
    This switches the tweeter on/off.

Connection examples

Connection examples

Using the SW115 as an extension speaker for the SW100
In this example, the SW115 is connected to a SW100 Ibanez bass amp. Connect the output of the SW100 to the 8 Ω Input jack. The impedance of the entire speaker system will be 4 Ω.
Since the SW100 can produce 145W of output at 4 Ω, this system will produce 145W of output.

When making connections to other amps, carefully read the owner's manual for the device you are connecting, so that you can be sure to make connections correctly. In particular when connecting speakers to a tube amp, it is extremely important to match the impedance of the amp and speaker system.

Attaching the casters

The included casters may be attached to this speaker cabinet.
The speaker cabinet is quite heavy. Please use caution when installing the casters.

Items required: wrench (included)

Procedure

  1. Gently lay the cabinet on its back so that the grill faces upward. Be careful not to pinch your fingers between the back panel and the floor.
  2. Turning the screw portion of the caster clockwise, fasten it into the metal receptacle on the bottom of the cabinet.
  3. Using the wrench that is included with the speaker cabinet, tighten the nut that is located at the base of the screw portion, to fasten the caster firmly.
  4. Attach the remaining three casters in the same way.
  5. Finally, gently raise the cabinet upright. Carefully, so as not to injure yourself, raise the speaker cabinet to an upright position.
