Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Ibanez TB412A/TB412S. In order to take full advantage of this speaker system, please carefully read and understand this manual, and save it for future reference.

Precautions during use

Cables

Use speaker cables with 1/4" plugs (see figure below). If you use a cable that is not designed as a speaker cable, the cable itself may overheat or catch fire. If a malfunction occurs in the cable, the amp head may overheat and malfunction.
Cables

Impedance

When connecting the speaker system to an amp, please check the total impedance of the speaker system that you are connecting. In particular when connecting multiple speakers, the impedance of the entire system will be less than the impedance of a single speaker cabinet. When setting up, it is important to match the impedance with the amp. Please set up your system according to the connection examples shown in this manual.
If you are unsure about how to make connections, please contact your dealer.

Power handling

When connecting the speaker system to an amp, you must check the output rating of the amp. If a signal that is larger than the rated power handling is input to a speaker unit, the speaker unit may be damaged. If this occurs, a fee will be charged to replace the speaker unit even if the system is still under warrantee.
In particular when using the speaker system in stereo, please be aware that the power handling will be half of the mono power handling.

Speaker cabinet location

Place the speaker cabinet in a stable location. The placement of the cabinet and the surroundings will affect the tone. If you are using multiple speaker cabinets, the speakers will work more efficiently as a system if the cabinets are located near each other.

Cable connections

Before you connect cables, you must turn the master volume of the amp to 0 or turn the power off. If the speaker is repeatedly subjected to the noise that occurs when a plug is inserted or removed, wires may break or other malfunctions may occur.

Care of the cabinet

To prevent the cabinet from becoming discolored or deformed, avoid using it in direct sunlight or extreme humidity. To remove dust or dirt, wipe gently with a dry cloth. Do not use alcohol, petrochemical solvents, or thinner, since these may discolor the cabinet. Do not drop the amp or otherwise subject it to physical shock, and avoid rough handling.

Names and functions for each part

Names and functions for each part

  1. Speaker units
These units reproduce the audio signal.
  2. Cabinet
This is a box that supports the speaker units. The cabinet is designed to produce optimal playback for a guitar amp, based on calculations of how the sound is reflected and interacts with itself inside the cabinet.
  3. Grill
This protects the speaker units from dust and direct impacts from external objects.
  4. Corners
    These corners protect the cabinet.
  5. Handles
Use these handles when moving the cabinet.
  6. Rubber feet, casters
Rubber feet are provided to stabilize the cabinet. The included casters are convenient when you need to transport the system. For details on attaching the casters, refer to "Attaching the casters."
  7. Jack plate
The speaker input jack and the STEREO/MONO select switch are located here.
  8. Input jacks
Use a speaker cable to connect the speaker output jack(s) of your amp to these input jack(s). When you make connections, you must check that the speaker impedance, amp output, and speaker cabinet power handling are appropriate.
  9. STEREO/MONO select switch
This switch selects either stereo or monaural operation.
    When MONO is selected
All four speakers will be connected. If select the MONO 4 Ω jack or the MONO 16 Ω jack, the speaker impedance will be 4 Ω or 16 Ω. In either case, the power handling will be 400W. When using this speaker system in monaural, you must use either the MONO 4 Ω or the MONO 16 Ω input jack --- not both. If you insert plugs into both input jacks, the system will not operate correctly.
    When STEREO is selected
When you set this switch to STEREO, the speaker system will function as two independent 8 Ω speaker cabinets (left and right). When used with two power amps or a stereo amp, you can play the left and right speaker units independently. In this case, each side (left and right) will have an impedance of 8 Ω and a power handling of 200W.

Connection examples

  1. One speaker cabinet in monaural/This example shows an Ibanez TB100H guitar amp head connected to a TB412A.Set the STEREO/MONO switch to the MONO position, and connect the output of the TB100H to the MONO 4 Ω jack. Since the TB100H can produce 120W of output at 4 Ω, this system can produce 120W of output.
    Connection example 1
  2. Stereo connection/This example shows connections with a 2 × 8 Ω 100W stereo amp. Set the STEREO/MONO switch to the STEREO position. When used in stereo, the each side (left and right) of the TB412A/TB412S will have a impedance of 8 Ω and power handling of 200W.
    Connection example 2
  3. Two parallel-connected speaker systems in monaural/This example shows an Ibanez TB100H guitar amp head connected to a TB412A and TB412S. Set the STEREO/MONO switch to the MONO position, and make connections as shown in the diagram. In this case, the total impedance of the speaker system will be 8 Ω.
    Connection example 3

When stacking the TB412A on top of the TB412S, you must remove the casters from the TB412A and align the rubber feet with the depressions in thecoasters on the top surface of the TB412S. If the speaker cabinet is stacked without removing the casters, it will be unstable and extremely hazardous. You must take the same precaution when stacking the TB412S on top of another TB412S.

When making connections to other amps, carefully read the owner's manual for the device you are connecting, so that you can be sure to make connections correctly. In particular when connecting speakers to a tube amp, it is extremely important to match the impedance of the amp and speaker system.

Attaching the casters

The included casters may be attached to this speaker cabinet.
The speaker cabinet is quite heavy. To avoid injury, this procedure should be performed with care, by two or more people.

Items required: wrench (included)

Procedure

  1. Gently lay the cabinet on its back so that the grill faces upward. Be careful not to pinch your fingers between the back panel and the floor.
Attaching the casters - Step 1
  2. Turning the screw portion of the caster clockwise, fasten it into the metal receptacle on the bottom of the cabinet.
Attaching the casters - Step 2
  3. Using the wrench that is included with the speaker cabinet, tighten the nut that is located at the base of the screw portion, to fasten the caster firmly.
Attaching the casters - Step 3
  4. Attach the remaining three casters in the same way.
  5. Finally, gently raise the cabinet upright. Using two people, each person should grasp a handle on either side and lift the cabinet together. Attempting to raise the cabinet alone is extremely hazardous, since the casters will roll. This step must be performed by two people.
