XDP sterndrive propeller choices
The propellers for the Duoprop drive units have application
and diameter/pitch identification symbols: D0-D7, and F2-F9.
The single number represents the diameter/pitch. The identi-
fication symbol and the front and rear identification are stamped
on the end of the propeller hubs. When replacement is re-
quired, you may purchase the propellers individually, but you
must make sure they are the same size and same shaft
(e.g., F7 front and rear). Do not mix or split sets.
1. "D" series aluminum propellers
Volvo Penta's aluminum propellers are manufactured with a
special aluminum alloy that is highly resistant to the stress
and effects of salt water. The unique design of the Duoprop,
with its two counter rotating propellers, is very important in
achieving optimum performance.
Note: D5, D6, and D7 propellers are recommended for
speeds below 40 MPH. For installations where "D"
series propellers are not recommended, "F" series
stainless steel propellers should be used.
2. "F" series stainless steel propellers
A stainless steel Duoprop set is a very worthwhile upgrade
from aluminum. They offer high performance through thinner
blades, powerful thrust, and virtually cavitation-free running;
and greater torsion strength for higher acceleration.
3. "X" series composite propellers
Volvo Penta's composite X propellers are made from impact
resistant composite material that is impervious to galvanic
corrosion effects. They offer the capability of individual blade
replacement without replacing the entire propeller assembly.
The pitch can be changed by simply changing the blades
without having to purchase the complete propeller hub thereby
reducing cost. These propellers range from X-3 to X-8. If
changing propeller pitch, both front and rear propeller blade
sets must match. Do not mix different pitch propellers.
Caution!
X-series composite propellers are not designed to be
utilized on 5.7 liter engines. The 5.7 OSi and OSXi
develops more power than these propellers are ca-
pable of handling. Serious damage will result to the
propeller blades and possibly the drive.
