Propeller care

A damaged or unbalanced propeller will cause excessive vi-
bration and a loss of boat speed. Under these conditions,
stop the engine and check the propeller for damage. If the
propeller appears damaged, have it checked by your Volvo
Penta dealer. Always carry a spare propeller and replace the
damaged propeller as soon as possible.
A rubber hub in the propeller is the shock absorber that mini-
mizes damage to drive unit and engine. If the rubber hub
should begin to slip, it can be easily replaced at an autho-
rized Volvo Penta dealer or propeller service station.
Caution!
Protect your hands from the sharp edges of the propel-
ler blades. Wear gloves whenever you remove or
replace a propeller.
Do not attempt to hold propellers by hand when you
remove or install propellers and propeller nuts. Seri-
ous injury could result.

D or F-Series
Propellers were not shipped with your sterndrive. The correct
propellers must be selected to match engine and boat com-
bination to give the best engine life, fuel economy, and per-
formance. The boat manufacturer has performed tests to de-
termine the optimum propellers for each boat and engine
combination. Consult the boat manufacturer for propeller rec-
ommendations, or refer to the Power and Propeller Perfor-
mance Charts . Tools for removing and installing the propel-
lers are contained in Volvo Penta's propeller tool kit, P/N
3862811.
Caution!
D-series aluminum propeller sets used on Duoprop
applications are not recommended for use on boat and
engine combinations capable of speeds in excess of 40
MPH. F-series stainless steel propeller sets should be

used in these applications.
1. Coat the full length of both propeller shafts with Volvo
Penta water resistant grease, P/N 828250-1.
2. Place the remote control in the FORWARD gear posi-
tion to lock the propeller shafts. Install the front propel-
ler.
3. Install the front propeller nut.
Caution!
Be sure the chamfered edge of the propeller nut is
facing forward. Failure to install the propeller nut
correctly could result in a propeller coming loose and
GR990996
damage to the lower unit and/or the propeller.
