How to Use

This product is for household use only.

Blender Jar Assembly

  1. Before first use, wash all parts except the unit base. The jar, base assembly, gasket and collar are already assembled into the jar base. Disassemble to wash. Once all pieces have been cleaned, reassemble.
    Place the blade assembly in the collar and place the gasket over the blade assembly. Holding the jar right-side up, thread the collar on the bottom of the jar and turn it counterclockwise until tight.

  2. Place the assembled jar onto the unit base. jar is nowsecure. Do not try to twist jar onto unit base.

HOW TO USE

  1. Plug the cord into a standard electrical outlet. Unit is in"Off" mode when unplugged.
  2. Place the food to be blended into the jar and put the lidon the jar before blending. Be sure the cap is in place. When crushing ice or hard foods, keep one hand on the lid.
  3. Select the appropriate speed setting for your task:
    1. Puree
    2. Whip
    3. Mix
    4. Grate
    5. Blend.
      Press the "Off" button when finished.
  4. Use the Pulse button for a few seconds, then release for quick or delicate blending tasks.
    HOW TO USE - Using the pulse button
    For best results when crushing ice, use the ice crush button. To activate, push the ice crush button; to stop crushing, release the button.

Important Operating Tips:

  • As a safety feature, the unit automatically shuts off if you keep any button pressed continuously.
  • Remember to operate one button at a time.
  • If the unit stops functioning, unplug, wait 30 seconds and plug in again.
  1. If you want to add ingredients while the blender is on, remove the cap and place through the lid opening.
  2. When finished blending, press the "Off" button.

Models BL9000/BLKT6050C:
This unit comes with a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen that shows the selected speed. The control panel buttons work the same, they are just arranged differently, around the LCD
HOW TO USE - Using the LCD

To use:

  1. Plug in the unit, the LCD comes on. Pulse and the speed functions display on the screen.
  2. Press the button number of the speed you want.
    The selected speed function blinks on the display.
    Note: The ice crush function does not blink on the display when selected.
  3. Use the STOP button to end all functions.

  • If the unit stops functioning, unplug, wait 30 seconds and plug in again.
  1. To remove the jar, lift it from the unit base. Remove the lid before pouring.

Blending Tips and Techniques

  • Cut food into small pieces, about 2 in. (5 cm) before adding to the blender. To chop, grate or prepare fruit smoothies using fresh or frozen fruit, cut foods into 3/4 in. (2 cm.) pieces.
  • For best circulation of foods that are to be blended with some liquid, pour the liquid into the jar first, then add solids.
  • Some of the tasks that cannot be performed efficiently with a blender are: beating egg whites, whipping cream, mashing potatoes, grinding meats, mixing dough, and extracting juices from fruits and vegetables.
  • The following items should never be placed in the unit as they may cause damage: bones, large pieces of solid frozen foods, or tough foods such as turnips.
  • To crush ice, add up to 6 ice cubes. Hold one hand firmly on the lid; pulse the ice crush button. If more ice is needed, remove the cap and add cubes one by one through the hole in the lid.

Recipes

Refried Beans

Makes approximately 3 cups (720 ml).

2 cans (15-16 oz/425-454 g each) pinto beans or 4 cups (960 ml) freshly cooked pinto beans with their liquid
1 small onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 cup (60 ml) bacon drippings or vegetable oil

  1. Drain beans and reserve liquid. In a medium skillet, cook beans, onion and garlic over medium-high heat until onions are very soft.
  2. Place 1 cup of the bean mixture in blender jar; cover and blend on mix. While blender is running, remove the cap and add a small amount of the reserved bean liquid through the opening as needed to smooth out the mixture. Continue to add beans, 1 cup at a time, and liquid as needed, until all beans are used and mixture is smooth.

Strawberry-Banana Smoothie

Makes 2 servings

1/2 cup (120 ml) orange juice
1 cup (about 5 oz./140 g) fresh strawberries, washed and hulled
1 medium banana, cut into 3 pieces
1 container (8 oz./240 ml) vanilla low-fat yogurt
1 Tbsp. honey (15 ml)
3 ice cubes

In blender jar add first 5 ingredients in order. Cover and mix on "Blend" (5) for 10 seconds. While blender is running, remove the cap. Add ice cubes and continue to blend until mixture is thick, smooth and creamy.

Care and Cleaning

This product contains no user serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel.

  1. Before cleaning, press the "Off" button on the controlpanel and unplug the blender.
  2. Rinse parts immediately after blending for easiercleanup. Wipe the unit base with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Remove stubborn spots by rubbing with a damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaner. Do not immerse the unit base in liquid.
  3. All removable parts can be washed by hand or in adishwasher. The lid, cap, collar, gasket and blade assembly should be placed in the top rack only. Disassemble before placing in the dishwasher. The jars are bottom rack dishwasher-safe. Do not place the jars or any other parts in boiling liquids.
  4. If liquids spill into the unit base; first unplug the unit, then wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
    Do not use rough scouring pads or cleansers on parts or finish.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions.
  • shock hazard To protect against risk of electrical shock, do not put blender base, cord, or plug in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning.
  • Avoid contacting moving parts.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Return the appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair, or electrical or mechanical adjustment. Or, call the appropriate toll-free number listed on the cover of this manual.
  • The use of attachments, including canning jars, not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause a risk of injury to persons.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let the plug or cord hang over the edge of table or counter.
  • Keep hands and utensils out of container while blending to reduce the risk of severe injury to persons or damage to the blender. A scraper may be used but must be used only when the blender is not running.
  • Blades are sharp. Handle carefully.
  • To reduce the risk of injury, never place cutter assembly blades on base without the jar properly attached.
  • Always operate blender with cover in place.
  • When blending hot liquids, remove center piece of two-piece cover.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
