7.10 FUEL SYSTEM
The fuel tank(s) are welded aluminum. The fuel system consists of two fuel
tanks, one located in each wing. Fuel shutoff valve is located on the middle
console. Each fuel tank filler cap has a vent snorkel. Sumps are located in the
bottom of each wing near the trailing edges of the doors.
Fuel is supplied to the engine from the left and right wing tank. Fuel flows by
gravity through strainers (inside tank) to the gascolator and the electrical fuel
pump at the lowest point of the aircraft located behind the pilot's seat. In case
of malfunction of the electrical fuel pump a bypass with a one way valve is
installed.
Fuel flows then via shut off valve directly to the engine driven fuel pump into
the left/right Bing carburetor. A fuel return line from the fuel distribution block
back to the gascolator minimizes the risk of vapor lock. The fuel return line has
a one way valve installed to directed fuel supply.
There are 2 check valves built in the fuel system. One check valve serves as
by-pass of the electrical fuel pump. In case of failure of the electrical fuel pump
fuel can still flow through the by-pass. The check valve avoids fuel pressed
backward in the fuel tank when the electrical fuel pump is on. The second
check valve in the fuel return ensures that no fuel can flow backwards in the
fuel return line to the engine. Although the fuel return line stays under pressure
by the engine fuel pump the check valve serves as backup to ensure fuel flow
direction.
