    Applicable Scenarios End users who have existing 6181P Series F computers with 100GB HDD or 64GB SSD storage media are able to purchase individual 256GB SSDs as an accessory. A field upgrade of their machine can be performed using the procedure outlined in this guide.

    The procedure to complete this process is dependent on the version of FactoryTalk Activation Manager installed. Please note, it is recommended to record the serial number of available activations prior to rehosting them should Rockwell Automation Technical Support need to reset the activation.

     The current partition table will be restored to previous state. Continue? Once the restore is complete, the progress bar will show 100%. To return to your desktop, select Exit three times. IV. Modify Partition Size using DISKPART The extra space on the 256GB drive cannot be used until it is allocated. The empty Recovery partition and unallocated extra space can be allocated to the main storage partition (C:) using DISKPART in an administrative command prompt.

Select this disk by entering select disk 0 View the partitions and their sizes of this disk using the list partition command The OEM partition is the empty and unlabeled recovery partition which can be removed.

    The extra space on the drive is now allocated to the main storage (C:) partition, as shown below. To create a Recovery Partition, stay in DiskPart and continue to the next section. V. Create Recovery Partition using DISKPART (optional) If a Recovery Partition is needed, continue the procedure with command prompt running diskpart and the main storage volume still selected from the previous steps.

    The last step in upgrading the hard drive is to restore the FactoryTalk Activation in the image. If the FactoryTalk Activation Host ID is attached to the hard driver serial number, the activations will need to be rehosted.     Frequently Asked Questions  I apply a custom image to systems that had the 100GB HDD (or 32GB SSD) drive. Can I use this image with  the larger 256GB SSD?  Yes. The system will function without needing to make changes to your image; however, the extra  space of the larger drive will be unusable until it is allocated. The extra space can be allocated using  a command prompt.    If a unit with activated Rockwell Software is upgraded does it keep the activation?  Yes. If the activation is linked to the old drive’s serial number, the activation must be returned from  the system using the old drive and re‐hosted on the system once the new drive is installed.    Are all agency certifications still valid if upgrade to 256GB SSD occurs?  Yes – there is no impact to the agency certification if the 256GB SSD is installed   What are the performance increases for upgrading to the 256GB SSD?  Our tests show that users who switch from the 100GB HDD to the 256GB SSD will see a 2.5x faster  generic boot time and 2x faster boot to FactoryTalk View ME application. Results will vary based on  application sizing.    Will 32bit 256GB SSD OS images be available?  Yes – see the Rockwell Automation Product Compatibility and Download (PCDC) site (Link)   Can Series E 6181P computers be upgraded to 256GB SSD?  No, the 256GB SSD is only qualified for Series F 6181P products   ...
