1 ABOUT THIS TEST KIT
When using amine cured epoxy resin coatings in a multi layer system, if the original coating cures in a low
ambient temperature or in a high humidity environment, a surface oiliness or exudates may occur. 'Amine
Blush' or 'Sweating' as it is commonly referred to, leads to inter-coating adhesion failure.
The Elcometer 139 ABC Amine Blush Check Kit provides quick, easy and immediate identification of the
presence of amine blush.
Each kit contains all items required for at least 75 tests.

: This test is qualitative and is not an indication of the amount of amine blush present on the

surface. The test is extremely sensitive and may detect even minor amounts of surface amine. The industry
has not yet established the critical threshold for the amount of surface amine that will cause intercoat
delamination. If the test reads positive, the user should contact the coating manufacturer to determine
whether additional surface treatment is required prior to application of subsequent coats. Because the test
method uses surface pH as a trigger, there are other factors that can produce a positive result. Laboratory
analysis by infrared spectroscopy can be used to more precisely determine whether free amine is present.
