Installation and operating instructions
EDC – Electronic Data Capture Module
1. General information
1.1 Intended Use
The EDC module (Electronic Data Capture) is used
to capture and transmit meter information from
ZENNER water meters. It is intended for mounting
on associated ZENNER water meters. The module
is used in the area of water management and con-
sumption recording. Users are usually utility compa-
nies and service providers in the area of consump-
tion billing, energy monitoring, etc. Only qualified
specialist personnel should carry out the retrofitting
and commissioning of the modules. Operational
safety is only guaranteed if the product is used as
intended according to the manufacturer. No liability
is accepted for damage caused by other uses. Any
modification is only permitted with the approval of
the manufacturer. Otherwise, the manufacturer's
declaration becomes invalid.
1.2 Inductive Clip-on module for water meters
The EDC module (Electronic Data Capture) for non
reactive electronic pulse detection of all ZENNER
water meters whose registers are equipped with
modulator disc is ideally suited for secure remote
reading and integration of water meters in AMR/AMI
Systems.
1.3 Intended purpose
Retrofit radio, M-Bus or pulse module for water
meters for readout purposes and data
transmission to mobile or stationary receivers.
1.4 Scope of supply
EDC module with installation manual,
fixing screw(s),
yellow adhesive securing mark(s),
water meter lid
1.5 Typical applications:
Wireless remote readout of water meters with
walk-by or drive-by system
Wireless remote readout of water meters via
LPWA-networks (LoRaWAN®)
Radio transmission of the readings to mobile or
stationary receivers
Remote meter reading via M-Bus Systems
Remote meter reading via GSM module
Accurate metering of fluids in the industrial and
commercial segment
Indication of flow volume and consumption
e.g. by the means of a pulse couting module or
measurement transducer
The EDC communication module ensures that in
case of remote transmission of the readings, the
current status will be transmitted. There is no replica
of the meter index due to pulse counting. The pulse
detection of the register's modulator disc occurs
electronically and without retroaction on the reg-
ister. The electronics detects reverse pulses which
will be computed internally, so that by means of the
EDC module the current status of the register will be
transmitted and read remotely.
The EDC module is available in five different ver-
sions:
wireless M-Bus radio module according to
EN 13757-4
LPWAN-Radio module for LoRaWAN®
wired M-Bus-module, EN 13757-3
Pulse module with forward and reverse flow
detection
combined M-Bus and pulse module
The EDC modules are each powered from a battery,
which - depending of the version - has a lifetime of
up to 15 years (wM-Bus) and 10 years (LoRaWAN®).
