CHANGING A WHEEL

Park the vehicle away
from traffic if possible and
on level ground which is
not slippery (place a plank
under the jack if necessary). Switch
on the hazard warning lights.
Apply the handbrake and engage a
gear (first or reverse).
Ask all the passengers to leave the
vehicle and keep them away from
traffic.

If necessary, remove the wheel trim.
Use the wheelbrace to slacken off the
wheel bolts 1. Fit it so that you press
downwards rather than pulling up-
wards.
Start extending jack 2 by hand, turning
the handle. Position the head correctly
under vertical sill seam 3 nearest to the
wheel concerned and marked by an
oblong hole 4.
Continue turning the handle to position
the base of the jack on the ground cor-
rectly.
Turn a few times to lift the wheel off the
ground.
– Remove the bolts;
– remove the wheel.
Fit the emergency spare wheel on the
central hub and turn it to locate the
mounting holes in the wheel and the
hub.
When the bolts are supplied with the
emergency spare wheel (in the storage
box), use these bolts only for the emer-
gency spare wheel. Tighten the bolts
and lower the jack.
With the wheels on the ground, tighten
the bolts as far as possible and check
the tightness as soon as possible (tight-
ening torque 105 Nm).
If you have a puncture, re-
place the wheel as soon as
possible.
A tyre which has been punc-
tured should always be inspected
(and repaired, where possible) by a
specialist.
