15.2.2 Start-Up Inspection Instructions

15.2.2.1 Disabling VSPLC / VSSLC

 To disable the VSPLC / VSSLC,
disconnect the wiring harness by
removing
instrument panel (See Figure #28,
Location 6)
 A diagnostic code will be displayed on
Powerview gauge and an alarm will be
sent to fire pump controller. This is
normal.
15.2.2.2 Bleeding the PLD Speed Control
System
 At initial start-up with the engine at
rest, open the drain cocks at the top of
the manifold connection block (See
Figure #4) to bleed out any air.

15.2.2.3 Initial Start Up

 Close the sprinkler system main
discharge valve and then start the
engine. (Note: Refer to Section 2.6 to
assist
with
instructions for the engine.)
 Set engine rated speed with pump
should be operating at rated flow
(GPM).
 Record the discharge pressure and
engine speed at shutoff (0 GPM) for
future reference.
 Enable the VSPLC / VSSLC by
plugging wiring harness into engine
instrument panel. (See Figure #29,
Location 11). Diagnostic code and fire
pump controller alarm will go away.
 You may or may not observe a
reduction in speed. The greatest speed
reduction will occur with the pump
running at shut-off (0 GPM). Reduce
flow back to shut-off and record the
change in discharge pressure and
engine RPM from values recorded
above. In no case should the discharge
pressure be greater than the maximum
allowed system pressure.

 NOTE: The purpose of disabling the
VSPLC / VSSLC is to allow for testing
of the pump with the PLD Speed
Control System de-activated. This
only occurs during initial start-up and
during the annual pump test. Be sure
to test PLD operation twice, once with
each engine ECM active.
15.2.2.4 Main Relieve Valve (MRV) Setting
 To prevent the PLD control being
affected by the opening and closing of
the
recommended to set the cracking
pressure of the MRV 15-20 psi above
the PLD Set Point.

15.2.2.5 System Monitoring

 Via the Powerview gauge located on
the engine's instrument panel (Figure
#28,
configured VSPLC / VSSLC set points
and real-time discharge pressure and
suction pressure can be monitored.
 To view system set points follow these
steps (See Figures #26, 27, 28):
