Eaton’s certified partner who has completed xStorage Compact ESS service training. You can install the xStorage battery packs only within the Eaton xStorage battery rack and connect them with the Eaton xStorage energy storage systems. Install the rack only on a non-flammable floor.

Never expose the xStorage Compact ESS and battery packs to direct sunlight or to any heat source. If you need to store the xStorage Compact ESS and battery packs prior to installation, make sure to store them in a dry place away from exposure to sun and rain.
In the unlikely event of a thermal runaway by a battery, Eaton recommends leaving the battery room, closing doors, access, or windows while ensuring that ventilation is turned on and the xStorage Compact energy storage system is shut down.

3.2 System description and main components The Eaton xStorage Compact 20 kW - 40 kW is a single rack energy storage system (ESS). It is a modular and scalable solution for various energy storage applications in residential, commercial and light industrial buildings.
• A string includes 4 battery packs and 1 master battery pack, a total of 5 packs in series. The xStorage Compact unit contains 1 battery string. The external battery rack can contain 1 or 2 strings (1 master battery pack and 4 or 9 battery packs).

4. Battery pack One battery string (1 master battery pack and 4 battery packs) is installed in the Eaton xStorage Compact 20 kW - 40 kW unit. Up to 2 battery strings (1 master battery pack and 4 or 9 battery packs) can be installed in the external battery rack for more energy capacity.

Insert the forks of the forklift between the skids on the bottom of the unit. Make a visual inspection and make sure that there are no signs of shipping damage. Examine the indicators. Be careful not to push the equipment too much or too fast since it may cause the equipment to tip over. Note that the equipment is heavy. 10. Make sure that there is enough clearance to install the battery packs. For the minimum clearances, refer to Table 6: xStorage Compact system and battery cabinet minimum clearances. 11. To secure the unit in position, lower the leveling feet in the corners of the unit until the unit is not resting on the casters.
3. Install the battery packs. For instructions, refer to Section 5.3 Install battery packs. 4. Connect the DC and AC cables to the respective terminal blocks inside the xStorage Compact unit. For information on the terminals, refer to Section 5.4 AC and DC cabling of the energy storage system.
It is recommended to measure the open battery voltage. Contact the service organization using the following e-mail address: BGTechSupport@eaton.com if more than 2 V voltage difference is measured between battery pack within a string or if open battery voltage is out of predefined range [79 – 97 V].

See the tightening torque for the power cable terminal from the sticker close to the terminals. DC cables between the xStorage Compact system and external battery rack must be double insulated. For the calculation of the size of wires and cables, local and national electrical code requirements must always be followed.

Title 5.6 Communication interface connections This section describes all xStorage Compact ESS communication interface connections. Terminal blocks are located in the communication area, in the upper section of the unit (see Figure 14: Communication interfaces). Figure 14 . Communication interfaces Table 8 .
There is a dry-contact relay alarm signal available from the terminal block X7, pins 1 – 2. See Table 8: Communication interface terminals. The relay can be used to inform operators about the xStorage Compact ESS conditions, for example through a building management system.
