  • Page 11 The xStorage 400 is protected by a weathertight cabinet. The cabinet has been tested to IP24 standards as part of its UL listing and is designed to meet 3R requirements. Constructed primarily of aluminum, the cabinet is designed for corrosion resistance.

    Hydrogen gas can ignite if allowed to build to the lower flammability limit. To preclude this, the xStorage 400 is equipped with a hydrogen venting system that continuously monitors the cabinet atmosphere for hydrogen concentration. If hydrogen is detected, the xStorage 400 will automatically shut down and the two dampers will open to ventilate the enclosure.

  • Page 29 Wye source) for proper equipment operation. The Eaton xStorage 400 unit is designed for operation on a grounded-wye source of supply. There is no additional connection point for a neutral conductor. The output of the xStorage 400 will not directly support phase to neutral loads.

    Ensure the exposed conduit location is in the proper location relative to the conduit opening in the bottom of the xStorage 400. If the conduit is installed in the incorrect location, the power cabling can be rerouted and installed using a side entrance kit.

    A battery lift must be used when maneuvering batteries into and out of the xStorage 400 cabinet. The batteries used in the xStorage 400 weigh more than 100 lbs. Serious injury will result if a battery lift system is not used.

    E E a a t t o o n n x x S S t t o o r r a a g g e e 4 4 0 0 0 0 O O v v e e r r v v i i e e w w The Eaton xStorage 400 is a continuous-duty, solid-state, transformerless, three-phase system that provides advanced energy storage capabilities.

    C C h h a a r r g g i i n n g g M M o o d d e e When select programmable conditions are met, the xStorage 400 will charge its internal batteries. Three- phase, 480 VAC electrical current flows into the xStorage 400 from the utility and is converted to DC current by the EnergyAware Inverters.

  • Page 52: Emergency Power Off (Epo)

    EPO can be wired into the xStorage 400 by authorized personnel. If an EPO is triggered, the xStorage 400 will go into shutdown mode, shunt trip internal battery breakers, and shunt trip the upstream breaker feeding the xStorage 400, separating it from the load bus. This will cut all power to and from the xStorage 400, meaning all auxiliary loads such as remote connectivity, heating, and cooling will be shut down.

    The Eaton xStorage 400 stores electric energy in lithium-ion battery modules and internally transmits DC power up to 850 V and AC power up to 480 V. Therefore, the xStorage 400 is susceptible to Class B and Class C fires.

    4789910728, prepared by UL LLC and issued May 6, 2021. The xStorage 400 is further protected by a hydrogen detector that continually monitors the hydrogen content of the air within the cabinet. If 25% of the LFL of hydrogen is detected (approximately 1% by volume), the xStorage 400 will isolate itself from utility power and shutdown.

    Demand response programs offered by utility companies provide an opportunity to reduce financial burden by shifting electricity usage during peak periods and limiting peak demand charges. The xStorage 400 can discharge the Lithium Ion batteries as needed to decrease the load seen by the utility at a specific time. The Eaton xStorage 400 EnergyAware Controller can be configured to provide demand response and peak shaving functionality.

    PredictPulse provides proactive monitoring technologies that automatically analyze the status, state, and health of the xStorage 400 system. Telemetry data gathered from the unit, current and historical, is analyzed at the Eaton Customer Reliability Center (CRC). Anomalies are escalated to a Software and Monitoring analyst or Technical Support specialist.
