8410B/C
Interface and Cable
The purpose of
J18.
The rear panel connector labeled, 8410 INTERFACE, can
be used to provide
control signals to
an
HP
8410B/C
network analyzer or
an
HP 8516 S-parameter test set (part
of an
HP
8510
network analyzer system).
An
RS-232
cable called,
SOURCE CONTROL CABLE, (HP
part
number 08410-60146) provides
the connection
between the
instruments.
Refer
to Figure G-18 for an
illustration of the connector and cable.
The interface
signals.
Several
of
the rear panel functions such as,
EXT TRIGGER INPUT, MUTE
OUTPUT, PENLIFT OUTPUT, NEG BLANK,
and
Z-AXIS
are provided
on this
connector
also.
These
signals enable multi-octave operation
of an HP 8410B/C. There
is
also
a
pin
input
(LSTEPUP)
for
a
switch closure
to
execute
the UP key function,
which increments the active front panel key.
Some
signals on
this
connector
are redefined
when the HP
8340
is
used
with
a
40 GHz HP 8510
network analyzer system.
Pin
4
(LALTSEL)
becomes CONTROL BIT
3
Pin 10
(PEN LIFT) becomes CONTROL BIT
1
Pin
11
(LMUTE) becomes CONTROL BIT
0
Pin 17
(LALTEN) becomes CONTROL
BIT
2
The
redefinition occurs when the HP 8510 acts as the HP
8340
controller and
commands
the synthe¬
sized
sweeper
to provide the data control lines to an
S-parameter
test set. These control lines then
command the
test set
to generate frequencies beyond
the normal operating range of the
HP 8340.
