Engine Oil Change
If the engine oil is dirty, engine wear will occur more rapidly. Change
the oil at designated intervals. Maintain the oil at the proper level.
OIL CHANGE INTERVAL: First month or 20 hours, or every year,
before operation.
RECOMMENDED OIL:
Use 5W-30 4-stroke motor oil that meets
or exceeds the requirements for API
service classification SJ or later (or
equivalent). Always check the API
service label on the oil container to be
sure it includes the letters SJ or later (or
equivalent).
QUANTITY SPECIFIED: 0.60 L
How to Change the Oil
Let the engine cool before changing the oil.
Drain the oil while the engine is still warm to assure rapid and
complete draining.
1. Place the snow thrower on a level surface.
2. Remove the engine oil filler cap/dipstick, drain bolt, and sealing
washer.
If you drain the oil immediately after stopping the engine, its
temperature will be high and may cause burns.
3. Install a new sealing washer and drain bolt and tighten the bolt
securely.
TORQUE: 11 N•m
4. Fill with new oil (see
page
by the oil filler cap/dipstick. (In checking the oil level with the oil
filler cap/dipstick, do not screw the cap/dipstick in.) Do not overfill.
5. After replacing the oil, securely tighten the engine oil filler
cap/dipstick.
Wash your hands with soap and water after handling used oil.

Spark Plug
Checking and Adjustment
The spark plug must be periodically checked and adjusted to provide
reliable ignition.
Interval at which the spark plug must be checked: Every year,
before operation
CAUTION
10) up to the upper limit, as indicated
Cleaning Procedure
If the engine has been running, the muffler will be very hot.
Be careful not to touch the muffler while it is hot. Allow the
engine to cool before proceeding.
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly
gapped and free of deposits.
1. Remove the spark plug cap.
2. Clean any dirt from around the spark plug base.
3. Use the wrench supplied in the tool kit to remove the spark plug.
4. Inspect the spark plug. Replace it if the electrodes are worn or if
the insulator is cracked or chipped. If it is to be reused, clean the
electrode and the insulator with a wire brush.
5. Measure the plug gap with a feeler gauge.
Correct as necessary by carefully bending the side electrode.
The gap should be: 0.7 - 0.8 mm
REQUIRED PLUG: BPR5ES (NGK) or W16EPR-U (DENSO)
SIDE ELECTRODE
6. Make sure that the spark plug sealing washer is in good condition
and thread the spark plug in by hand to prevent cross-threading.
7. After the spark plug is seated, tighten with a spark plug wrench to
compress the washer.
TORQUE: 18 N•m
NOTE: If installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/2 turn after the
spark plug seats to compress the washer. If reinstalling a
used spark plug, tighten 1/8 to 1/4 turn after the spark
plug seats.
NOTICE
Use only the required spark plugs or equivalent plugs. Spark plugs
which have an improper heat range may cause engine damage.
The spark plug must be securely tightened. An improperly tightened
spark plug can become very hot and may damage the engine.
