Chapter 4 — Calibration

Polarization Voltage

4.1
Polarization Voltage
The only part of Type 5998 that requires regular calibration is the setting of the
polarization voltage.
The Polarization Voltage should be adjusted to 200 V on the front panel of Type
5998. Any calibrated digital voltmeter with 1 MΩ or greater input impedance can be
used.
Caution: Hazardous Live Voltage. The 200 V terminal may deliver a current of
7 mA and can give an electric shock. Do not touch conductive parts connected to the
200 V terminal. When connecting a voltmeter, make the voltmeter connections be-
fore connecting to Type 5998. When disconnecting, disconnect from Type 5998 first.
Procedure
Note: This procedure is also contained in the checking procedure.
