Connecting to a cable box or satellite receiver (2)
If many or all the channels you receive by cable or satellite are scrambled, we recommend using this setup.
Using the setup on this page you can:
• Record any channel by selecting it on the cable box/satellite tuner.
• Record using the Auto Start Recording feature (see Automatic recording from a satellite tuner on page 54).
Important
• Do not connect the video output of this system to your TV via your VCR, satellite receiver or cable box. Always
connect it directly to your TV.

Connect RF antenna cables as shown.
This enables you to watch and record TV channels.

Use a video cable to connect the VIDEO
MONITOR OUT jack to a video inut on your TV.
This enables you to watch discs.
• You can optionally use the S-video or component
video jacks to connect this system to your TV. See
Connecting using the S-video output and Connecting
using the component video output on page 116.

Use an audio/video cable to connect the audio/
video output of your cable box/satellite receiver to
the LINE 1 IN (AUTO START REC) jacks.
This enables you to record scrambled TV channels.

Use an optical digital audio cable to connect the
digital audio output on your cable box/satellite
receiver to the OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO IN 1 jack.
This enables you to listen to cable/satellite channels with
digital audio.
Note
• The setup on this page does not allow you to watch
one channel and record another.
