GoBook Series Laptop Vehicle Adapter Overheating

When Used Continuously

Introduction

Ongoing testing and investigation, which result in preliminary field reports, have identified potential issues that may affect the
performance of the Vehicle Adapter. This Technical Bulletin is intended to provide guidelines for use of the GoBook Vehicle Adapter,
ensuring reliable performance.

Fault Condition

If the GoBook Vehicle Adapter is connected continuously to vehicle power through the vehicle cigarette lighter (or 12V) receptacle,
there is the possibility that excessive heat can be generated. It has been determined that temperatures are high enough to result in
deformation of the receptacle plug.
CAUTION In the case of a bad connection the metal contacts in the cigarette lighter (or 12V) connector can become very hot. It
may be possible to burn yourself!

Solution

The GoBook vehicle adapter is intended to provide a convenient, temporary power source for powering and charging a GoBook
series laptop while in transit in a vehicle. The GoBook Vehicle Adapter is not designed for continuous operation. For additional
information with regard to permanent installation of the Vehicle Adapter, contact your Itronix Representative.
Below are some recommendations for use of the vehicle charger adapter with your GoBook computer:
• Charge the GoBook nightly at room temperature using an approved AC Adapter
• Charge the GoBook with the vehicle charger adapter as needed
• Allow the GoBook to power on and run from the internal battery periodically during the day
• Regularly inspect the vehicle adapter for loose or missing parts. Replace or correct as needed or as necessary
• When not using the Vehicle Adapter disconnect it from the cigarette lighter (or 12V) receptacle
• Use only the correct replacement fuse and ensure that it is assembled correctly into the cigarette lighter adapter. Refer to the
illustration below.
