The ALERT J4X breath alcohol tester is easy to
use. It measures the alcohol content of the breath
(BrAC), which is in direct proportion to the alcohol
concentration of the blood (BAC). The readout is
provided with digital display. The tester has only
one button, making it very easy to operate.
SAFETY & PRECAUTIONS
• Before testing: Wait 20 minutes after drinking or
eating and 3 minutes after smoking
• Use the tester within the ambient temperature
range of -5 to 40 °C (23 to 122 °F)
• For ambient temperatures lower than -5 °C
(23 °F), use the optional car adaptor
• Use this tester for its intended purpose only

blinking, the batteries need to be
replaced
TAKING A BREATH TEST
1. Insert a new mouthpiece into the ALERT J4X
tester. To ensure accurate results, use a new
mouthpiece every time.
2. Power on the tester by pressing the button.
Wait for the READY icon to appear.
3. Blow steadily and continuously into the
mouthpiece. A continuous tone will sound
and the port will glow green to indicate proper
breath flow.
4. Stop blowing only when the tone ends. A click
sound is heard, but continue blowing.
5. The tester analyzes the breath sample and
displays BrAC results in a few seconds.
6. The tester powers down after a period of
inactivity. To power down manually: press the
button twice, quickly.
REPLACING BATTERY
The tester requires 2 AA alkaline or rechargeable
batteries to operate. To insert, turn the tester off
and remove the back cover by pressing down on
the indent and sliding the cover back.
