Risetimes and falltimes are generally measured by using
the 1 0 % and 9 0 % amplitude points a s reference starting
and ending points for the rise or fall.
1. Apply the signal to INPUT jack and s e t the vertical
M O D E s w i t c h to the channel to be used.
Use the V 0 L T S / D I V and V A R I A B L E controls to obtain a
normal 6 division high w a v e f o r m display.
Using the y P O S I T I O N control, set the waveform posi-
tion in the central area of the screen vertically, that it to
coincide w i t h the 1 0 0 % and 0 % lines on the C R T
screen.
S e t the S W E E P T I M E / D I V to a s high a speed a s p o s s i -
ble consistent with observation of both the 1 0 % and
9 0 % points.
S e t the A V A R I A B L E control to C A L .
2. Pull out the B S L O P E s w i t c h to initiate the S T A R T S
A F T E R D E L A Y mode of operation and adjust the B
S W E E P T I M E / D I V control for a s short a s possible an i n -
tensified section of waveform.
3. Using the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control, adjust the w a v e -
form s u c h that the 1 0 % point is intensified and record
the dial reading.
4 . Similarly, using the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control adjust
the 9 0 % point s o that it is intensified and record that
dial reading a s well.
T h e pulse risetime (or falltime) is simply the difference
between the t w o dial settings times the A S W E E P
T I M E / D I V control setting.
Using the formula:
Risetime = (2nd dial reading - 1 s t dail reading) x Delayed
s w e e p time (A S W E E P T I M E / D I V setting)

A P P L I C A T I O N
[ E X A M P L E ]
For the example s h o w n in Fig. 3 1 , the first dial reading is
1.20 ( 1 0 % point) and the second is 7 . 3 8 ( 9 0 % point) with
the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V setting set at 2 /us.
Substituting the given value:
Risetime = ( 7 . 3 8 - 1 . 2 0 ) x 2 (^s) = 1 2 . 3 6 /JS

dial reading multiplied by the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V c o n -
