5. Using the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control adjust the falling
edge of the pulse so that it touches the center horizon-
tal graduation line and is intensified.
The pulse width is the second dial reading minus the
first dial reading multiplied by the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V
setting.
Using the formula:
Pulse width = (2nd dial reading - 1 s t dial reading)
x Delayed s w e e p time (A S W E E P T I M E / D I V setting)
[ E X A M P L E ]
For the example s h o w n in Fig. 2 8 , the first dial reading is
0.61 and the second is 5 . 7 8 with the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V
setting at 2 /zs.
Pulse width = ( 5 . 7 8 - 0 . 6 1 ) x 2 {/JS) = 1 0 . 3 4 /JS

T h e frequency is obtained as the reciprocal of the period of
one cycle.
1. Measure the period of the waveform using the proce-
dure described above for time measurement.
2. T h e frequency is then the reciprocal of the period m e a -
sured.
Using the formula:
F r e q = „
——
Period
[ E X A M P L E ]
For the example s h o w n in Fig. 2 9 , the period measured is
4 0 . 2 fis, making the frequency simply.
Substituting the given value:
Freq = 1 / ( 4 0 . 2 x 10"
) = 2 4 . 8 8 kHz

Using the delayed s w e e p feature, reliable time measure-
ments can be made.
1. Apply a signal to INPUT jack and set the vertical M O D E
s w i t c h to the channel to be used.
Adjust the V O L T S / D I V control to obtain a normal easy
to view display of the waveform.
2. Adjust the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V control so that at least
t w o cycles of the waveform are displayed.
Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to A - I N T - B and pull
out the B S L O P E s w i t c h to affect the S T A R T S A F T E R
D E L A Y mode of operation.
Set the B S W E E P T I M E / D I V control a s fast a s w e e p
speed as possible.
3. Using the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control adjust the inten-
sified portion to coincide with the first pulse.
Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to A L T and use the
y T R A C E S E P control to adjust the w a v e f o r m s for easy
viewing.
4. Using the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control set the pulse to
coincide with one of the vertical graduation lines and
record the dial setting at this point.
5. Again using the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control, adjust the
second pulse in the s a m e manner to the vertical line
used in step 4, recording this dial setting a s well. T h e
pulse repetition time is the second dial reading minus
the first dial reading multiplied by the A S W E E P T I M E /
DIV control setting.
Using the formula:
Pulse repetition time = (2nd dial reading - 1 s t dial reading)
