[ E X A M P L E ]
For the example s h o w n in Fig. 2 3 , A S W E E P T I M E / D I V
setting is 0.1 m s and apply 1.75 kHz reference signal. A d -
just the A V A R I A B L E s o that the distance of one cycle is 5
divisions.
Substituting the given value:
l

J^
Horizontal coefficient =
5 x 0 . 1 ( m s )
Then, A S W E E P T I M E / D I V setting is 0 . 2 m s and horizontal
amplitude is 7 divisions. (Fig. 2 4 )
Substituting the given value:
Pulse width = 7 (div) x T . 1 4 2 x 0.2 (ms) = 1.6 m s
PULSE JITTER MEASUREMENTS
1. Apply the signal to INPUT jack and s e t the vertical
M O D E s w i t c h to the channel to be used.
Use the V O L T S / D I V control to adjust for an easy to ob-
serve waveform display. Special care should be taken
to adjust the Trigger group of controls for a stable dis-
play.
S e t the A V A R I A B L E control to C A L .
2. Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to A - I N T - B , and pull
out the B S L O P E s w i t c h to affect the S T A R T S A F T E R
D E L A Y mode.
Adjust the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control for intensified
display of the waveform to be measured.
3. Using the B S W E E P T I M E / D I V control, adjust the dis-
play for intensification of the entire jitter area of the
waveform.
4. S e l e c t the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to B DLY'D.
Measure the width of the jitter area.
T h e jitter time is this width in divisions multiplied by the
setting of the B S W E E P T I M E / D I V control.
Using the formula:
Pulse jitter = Jitter width (div) x B S W E E P T I M E / D I V
setting
[ E X A M P L E ]
For the example s h o w n in Fig. 2 5 , the jitter width w a s
measured at 1.6 divisions wide with the B S W E E P T I M E /
DIV setting set at 0.2 /xs.
Substituting the given value:
Pulse jitter = 1.6 x 0.2 fis = 0 . 3 2 /zs

(MAGNIFICATION)
T h e apparent magnification of the delayed s w e e p is deter-
mined by the values set by the A and B S W E E P T I M E / D I V
controls
1. Apply a signal to INPUT jack and set the vertical M O D E
to the channel to be used, adjusting V O L T S / D I V control
for an easily observed display of the w a v e f o r m and the
other controls if necessary.
2. S e t the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V control s o that several c y -
cles of the waveform are displayed. S e t the B S L O P E
s w i t c h to S T A R T S A F T E R D E L A Y (pull out).
W h e n the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h is select to A - I N T - B ,
the magnified portion of the w a v e f o r m will appeared i n -
tensified on the C R T display.
3. Use the D E L A Y T I M E M U L T control to shift the intensi-
fied portion of w a v e f o r m to correspond w i t h t h e s e c -
tion to be magnified for observation. Use the B S W E E P
T I M E / D I V control to adjust intensified portion to cover
the entire portion to be magnified.
4. Select the HORIZ D I S P L A Y s w i t c h to either A L T or B
DLY'D and use the ^ P O S I T I O N and ^ T R A C E S E P c o n -
trols to adjust the display for easy viewing.
5. T i m e measurements are performed in the s a m e manner
from the B s w e e p a s w a s described above for A s w e e p
time measurements.
The apparent magnification of the intensified w a v e f o r m
section is the A S W E E P T I M E / D I V control divided by
the B S W E E P T I M E / D I V control.
