Before using for the first time:
Soak the clay pot in cold water over night
before using it for the first time. The water
should cover the whole pot and the lid.
Rinse the clay pot under running water.
How to use the clay pot
— Before preparing the food, the pot and
the lid should be soaked in cold water for
at least 30 minutes.
— The clay pot is made from unglazed red
clay, a porous material which absorbs
liquid. When the pot is heated up, steam
is emitted, which means that the food
will not dry out or have to be basted
during cooking. It also means you can
cook food in little, no fat or oil at all.
The food does not have to be browned
before it is placed in the clay pot. If you
want the food to get extra colour, remove
the lid during the last 10-15 minutes of
cooking.
— The clay pot is sensitive to great
variations in temperature. Therefore,
always place the moisten pot and the
food in a cold oven. Set the required
temperature and start the oven. If
you use a gas oven, first set a lower
temperature than stated in the recipe.
After 10 minutes, raise the temperature
to the temperature stated.
— Since temperatures may vary between
ovens, check the first few times to see
that the food is thoroughly done. This
way you will learn how long the cooking
time really is.
Cleaning
Clean the clay pot only after it has cooled.
Soak in warm water and clean with a dish
brush. Do not use washing up detergent
since the clay is porous material and will
soak up the detergent.
After cleaning, leave the pot to dry properly,
e.g. in the cool oven.
After use the clay pot will assume a darker
shade. This does not impair the quality of
the pot in any way but is simply due to the
fact that it is made of a natural material.
Important!
Never pour cold water into a warm clay pot
or put a hot clay pot on a cold place, as
the temperature shock will crack the clay.
Always use pot holders when moving a
warm pot, and place it on a pot stand.
This clay pot may only be used in the oven.
Do not place it on a hot plate, a gas hob or
over an open flame.
The pot and lid should be cleaned and dried
completely before storing. Store the pot
with the lid alongside rather than on top of
the pot. Make sure air can circulate to avoid
moisture and mould.
