Section 2: INTRODUCTION

The Vector Solo SPM (Separate Power Module) system is a specialty design that combines the performance of an elec-
trostatic applicator along with the voltage generation of an off unit alternator. By removing the air driven voltage genera-
tor from the applicator and installing it into a control unit box, the applicator weight is reduced significantly. However, by
moving the module to the control unit box, a cable must be attached to the applicator from the box to supply the proper
voltage needed to generate the kV output. This system is not an FM/Atex approved system. It has been designed and
tested internally to meet both standards of safety performance.
The control unit box (P/N 80012-00) contains the voltage generating module inside. This module is supplied air from a
three position air switch that may be directed from the exterior of the control unit box. In one position, there is no air di-
rected to the applicator or the power module alternator. This position is used for flushing or cleaning the applicator. Posi-
tion two directs air to an infinitely adjustable air regulator (for atomization air pressure regulation), then to the applicator
but not to the power module alternator. This position is used when no voltage is desires such as targets that exhibit Fara-
day cage effects. The third position directs air to the infinitely adjustable air regulator, then to the applicator and to the
power module alternator, creating the necessary rotation of the alternator to create voltage. When the switch is located
in this position a pneumatic eye on the control unit box actuates and a red color is displayed signifying that voltage is
being generated. Also in the third position, high voltage will not be generated in the cascade of the applicator till the trig-
ger of the applicator is pulled.
Other features of the control unit box are: key lock entry, box bottom outputs and inputs (main air in, air out to applicator,
cable connection and ground connection), side or rear mounting holes.
The applicator (P/N 80011-00) was developed from the
Vector Solo product line but has the handle style of the
Vector corded product with a lager grip and adjustable
finger shelf. The applicator when cabled to the control
unit produces a maximum output of 45 kV. A twelve
coil fluid tube is included with the applicator for those
applications where the material being sprayed is either
very conductive or heavily filled with metallic flake. The
applicator uses all the optional nozzles and air caps
associated with either the vector Solo or Vector corded
product lines.
