  • Page 29 Turbidity and sample color will give erroneous high values. Samples with severe interferences require distillation. Albuminoid nitrogen samples also require distillation. Hach recommends the distillation procedure using the Hach General Purpose Distillation Set. See Optional Apparatus on page 1—31.

    Ammonia, Nitrogen, continued 客服:400 688 9809 Summary of Method Ammonia compounds combine with chlorine to form monochloramine. Monochloramine reacts with salicylate to form 5-aminosalicylate. The 5-aminosalicylate is oxidized in the presence of a sodium nitroprusside catalyst to form a blue-colored compound. The blue color is masked by the yellow color from the excess reagent present to give a final green-colored solution.

    Standard solutions for monochloramine are difficult and time-consuming to prepare. Errors can occur if attention to detail is not addressed during preparation of the standards. Hach Company prepares the calibration curve under rigorous analytical laboratory conditions. Hach recommends using the factory calibration.

Calibrations generated with deionized water as the zero will give less accurate results if the reagent blank is significantly more turbid or colored than deionized water.
