IrDA INTERFACE

The Infra Red interface complies with the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) data link protocol.
Features of the IrDA interface include:
Sharp-IR with selectable internal or external modulation/demodulation
IrDA 1.0 SIR support up to 115.2 Kbps
Full duplex infrared capability for diagnostics
Automatic or manual transceiver configuration
The interface includes an IrDA dongle assembly that contains the infrared transceiver. The 8-pin
mini-DIN connector (to which the dongle attaches) is shown as follows and the pinout is listed in
Table 5-10.

The supplied IrDA dongle provides the actual infrared interface with a compliant peripheral
device. The dongle uses a high speed IR LED as the transmitter and a high speed IR photo diode
as the receiver. These devices obtain power from the system unit. The peripheral device (or it's
infrared interface) should be placed no more than one meter from the dongle and no more than
15 degrees off the viewing angle of the dongle's infrared diodes.
