Add new disks

About this task
It is not necessary to remove power from the disk shelf before adding new disks.
Steps
1. Grab the finger slot of a blank carrier and pull it straight up to remove it from the disk slot.
NOTE:
After removing a blank carrier, insert the disk into the empty slot before removing the next carrier. Do not
attempt to remove all the carriers before installing the disks.
CAUTION:
Install the disk drives within 10 minutes after the shelf is slid out of the rack. If it is not returned
to the rack within 10 minutes, all drives may be powered down to avoid overheating the node.
2. Attach and ESD wristband to your wrist and the shelf in which you are installing the disk
3. Open the disk carrier latch all the way.
4.
CAUTION:
Do not drop the disk drive into the slot. Dropping the disk drive may damage the disk drive and the
drive interface backplane. A full chassis replacement is required if this occurs.
Align the disk with the guides and gently lower the disk into the slot (1).
The latch begins to rotate downward when its tabs meet the shelf.
5. If the drive installation becomes difficult:
a. Seat the drive as far as possible until a hard stop is reached.
b. Push drive horizontally toward the back of the chassis while holding the silver drive handle upright (at a 90 degree
angle).
c. The drive should release from the hard stop, and seating the drive can continue.
6. Push on the latch tab to engage the latch (2).
7. When the latch is engaged, push firmly on the module to verify that the disk is properly seated (3).
The disk's Active light flashes to reflect the disk's spin-up sequence.
