4.20 Common Command Group

4.20 Common Command Group
The commands in the common group are defined in the IEEE488.2-1992 and are independent of the instrument's
functions. There are no front panel keys or soft keys that correspond to the commands in this group.
*CAL?(CALibrate)
Function
Performs calibration and queries the result.
Syntax
*CAL?
Example *CAL? -> 0
Description This is not supported by the VB8300.
*CLS(CLear Status)
Function
Clears the standard event register, extended
event register, and error queue.
Syntax
*CLS
Example *CLS
*ESE(standard Event Status Enable
register)
Function
Sets the standard event enable register or queries
the current setting.
Syntax
*ESE {<NRf>}
*ESE?
<NRf> = 0 to 255
Example *ESE 253
*ESE? -> 253
Description • Specify the value as a sum of decimal values of
each bit (example: 253 is set as 11111101 in
the register).
• The default value is "*ESE 0" (all bits disabled).
• A query using *ESE? will not clear the contents
of the standard event enable register.
*ESR?(standard Event Status
Register)
Function
Queries the content of the standard event register
and clears the register.
Syntax
*ESR?
Example *ESR? -> 32
Description • A sum of decimal values of each bit is returned.
• You can check what type of events occurred
when an service request is generated.
• A query using *ESR? will clear the contents of
the standard event register.

*IDN?(IDeNtify)
Function
Queries the instrument model.
Syntax
*IDN?
Example *IDN? -> ANDO,703155-0642/D2,0,1.00
Description The information is returned in the following form:
<Manufacturer>,<Model>,<Serial
number>,<Firmware version> However, the serial
number is always 0.
*OPC(OPeration Complete)
Function
Sets a "1" to bit 0 (OPC bit) of the standard event
register bit upon the completion of the specified
overlap command.
Syntax
*OPC
Example *OPC
Description This is not supported by the VB8300, because
there are no overlap commands on the VB8300.
*OPC?(OPeration Complete)
Function
ASCII code "1" is returned when the specified
overlap command is completed.
Syntax
*OPC?
Example *OPC? -> 1
Description This is not supported by the VB8300, because
there are no overlap commands on the VB8300.
*OPT?(OPTion)
Function
Queries the installed options.
Syntax
*OPT?
Example *OPT? -> FDD 0,GPIB 0,RS232 1,
USB 1,ETHER 1,SCSI 0,HARDDISK 1
*PSC(Power-on Status Clear)
Function
Sets whether or not to clear the registers below at
power on or queries the current setting.
Standard event enable register, extended event
enable register, and transition filter
Syntax
*PSC {<NRf>}
*PSC?
<NRf> = 0 (not clear), non-zero
(clear)
Example *PSC 1
*PSC? -> 1
Description The default value is "*PSC 1."
