SPEAKER PHASING
The left and right channel speakers
should be connected so they are "in
phase" with each other
.
This means
that the speaker cones in both the left
and right channel speaker systems should
move in the same direction at the same
time, when driven by identical signals.
Read through the entire "Speaker
Phasing"
section before proceeding.
( ) Connect a wire from either terminal
on your left speaker to the
Amplifier terminal C that is nearest
to the PHONO input socket.
( ) Connect another wire fr~m the
remaining terminal on your left
speaker to terminal Lon the
Amplifier.
( ) Similarly, connect a wire from
either terminal on y~ur right
speaker to the other terminal Con
the Amplifier.
( ) Connect a wire from the rema1n1ng
terminal on your right speaker to
terminal Ron the Amplifier.
( ) Press the Amplifier MONO pushbutton
to the ON position.
( ) Connect a tuner or other signal
source to the appropriate input
on the Amplifier.
( ) Turn the signal source on.
Turn
the Amplifier VOLUME control to a
comfortable listening level.
( ) Turn the speakers so they face each
other and are approximately three
feet apart.
See Figure
1-3.
( ) As you stand in front of the
speakers as shown, note the loudness
of the bass notes.
Now interchange
the two wires of the right speaker.
When the loudest bass tones are
heard, the speakers are in phase.
If the bass tones diminished when
these wires were interchanged, the
speakers were in phase before and
are now out of phase.
Change the
two right speaker wires back once
again to the previous connections;
then leave them connected in this
manner.
The speakers are now in phase.
NOTE:
If your speaker system cannot be
moved, you can use the following method
to check the phasing. Stand in front of
the speakers as shown in Figure
1-4.
If the sound is coming directly from the
front, the speakers are in phase. If the
sound comes from both sides, the speakers
are out of phase;
interchange the two
wires on either speaker.
This will bring
them into phase.
PHONE PLUG
Figure 1-5 shows a type of plug that can
be installed on the end of a stereo
headphone cable.
The tip of the plug
connects to the right channel, the ring
connects to the left channel, and the
sleeve is the conmon connection.
