CONNECTING
THE
AMPLIFIER
TO YOUR
SYSTEM
Refer to Figure 1-6 (fold-out from Page
43) before you connect the speaker
system and accessory equipment to your
Amplifier.
SPEAKER PLACEMENT
Generally, for stereo listening, the two
speakers should be spaced four to eight
feet apart.
They should be placed along
a wall facing the listening area.
The
optimum positions can best be determined
by experiment.
A great deal depends
upon the size and acoustic properties of
the room, and upon the high frequency
dispersion characteristics of the
speakers.
Identi ea l speakers or
speaker systems are recommended for
stereo operation.
Correct spacing between speakers depends,
to some extent, upon the listener's
position and distance from the speakers.
If the listening position is restricted
to -0ne that is relatively close to the
speakers, some improvement may be
obtained by moving the speakers closer
together.
Stereophonic reproduction is striving
to recreate as accurately as possible
not only the sounds of "right" and
"left" origin, but also those near the
centre.
Experiment with
speaker
and
listening positions
to
arrive at the
best set of conditions
for
your
particular installation.
SPEAKER CONNECTIONS
Each channel of your Amplifier has two
output terminals:
R
(Right channel) or
L (Left channel) and C (common). In the
following steps, your
speaker
system
for each channel will be connected to
the R or Land C terminals.
Any speaker
system can be connected to the Amplifier's
output terminals;
however, optimum
performance will be obtained with
speakers of 4 to 16 ohms impedance.
For
best sound balance, use speakers of the
same impedance for both the right and
1 eft channels.
Spflaker Terminal Identification
Speaker terminals are usually labelled to
identify one terminal from the other.
This may be by number, colour, minus (-)
and plus
(+),
or some other designation.
It makes little difference how your
speaker terminals are designated, just
so you can distinguish one terminal from
the other. If your speakers are labelled,
fol low the steps under "Labelled Speakers."
If your speakers are not labelled, follow
the instructions under "Speaker Phasing."
Label·led Speakers
( ) Connect a wire to the marked terminal
on your left speaker.
Connect the
other end of this wire to the
Amplifier terminal C that is nearest
to the PHONO
input
sockets.
( ) Connect a wire from the other
terminal on your left speaker to
terminal Lon the Amplifier.
( ) In the same manner, connect a wire
to the marked terminal on your right
speaker.
Connect the other end of
this wire to the other (right speaker)
terminal Con the Amplifier.
( ) Connect a
wire from
the other
terminal on your right speaker to
terminal Ron the Amplifier.
