Combining recording formats on a single disc
If any of the following items is set differently, recordings
cannot be combined on a single disc.
• SYSTEM
• REC FORMAT
• AUDIO CH
• COUNTRY
Notes about HD signal output from the DV OUT
S400 connector in 23.98PsF mode
• It is possible to set 23.9P OUTPUT on the FORMAT
page of the OPERATION menu to PD or PSF only when
SYSTEM on the FORMAT page is set to 23.9P and SDI
OUTPUT SEL on the FORMAT page is set to HD. In
this mode, recording to the disc is done in 23.9P, the
same format as for 2-3 pulldown.
• It is not possible to set VIDEO OUT SEL on the
OUTPUT page of the OPERATION menu to VBS. HD
Y is selected automatically, and 23.98PsF signals are
output.
• Operation when the following functions are enabled is as
follows.
– Slow & quick motion function: Video signals are
suppressed (gray display). The slow & quick motion
function can be turned off by setting SLOW & QUICK
on the SPECIAL EFFECTS page to OFF.
– Interval Rec function: Video signals are suppressed
(gray display).
– Freeze Mix function: Switching between the freeze
image and the camera input occurs once every two or
three frames. Freeze mix images are not output to the
i.LINK connector. The output is camera E-E output.
• When you switch REC FORMAT on the FORMAT page
of the OPERATION menu to DVCAM, the unit is
powered off and on again twice. After the second power
on, the format switches to DVCAM, and 23.9P
OUTPUT on the FORMAT page switches to PD.
Adjusting the Black Balance/White
Balance
To ensure excellent image quality when using this
camcorder, conditions may require that both the black
balance and the white balance be adjusted.
If the black balance or white balance adjustment is started,
messages that report on the progress and results are
displayed on the viewfinder screen.

Note
Black balance and white balance adjustment values that
are automatically set by the camcorder and the various
settings are stored in the camcorder memory and retained
even when the power is turned off.
To adjust the black balance
The black balance will require adjustment in the following
cases.
• When the camcorder is used for the first time
• When the camcorder has not been used for a long time
• When the camcorder is used under conditions in which
the surrounding temperature has changed greatly
• When the GAIN switch (L/M/H) values have been
changed on the GAIN SW page of the OPERATION
menu
It is not usually necessary to adjust the black balance when
using the camcorder after it has been off.
In automatic black balance mode, adjustments are
performed in the following order: clamp level, black set,
and black balance.

Power the camcorder on, and set the OUTPUT/DCC
switch to CAM.

Push the AUTO W/B BAL switch to BLK and release
the switch.
The switch returns to the center position, and the
adjustment is executed.
During adjustment, the following message is displayed
on the viewfinder screen.
