Holding the camera correctly

For sharp, blur-free pictures, the camera should be
held as steadily and comfortably as possible. A
suitable, steady "three point hold" for the LEICA MP
is achieved if it is held with the right hand with the
index finger on the shutter release button and the
thumb pushed behind the quick wind lever, which
should be swung out into its ready position. The
left hand either supports the lens from under-
neath, ready for fast refocusing, or it is around the
camera. Holding the camera against the forehead
and cheek provides additional support. For por-
trait format pictures the LEICA MP should be
turned to the left. The hands remain in the same
position as for pictures in landscape format.
However, you can also turn it to the right. In this
case, it may be advantageous to release the shut-
ter with the thumb.
Note: As a practical accessory, we recommend
the Handgrip M, which allows you to hold the cam-
era extremely steadily and keep your hands free
when carrying the LEICA MP (order no. 14 405).
