The aperture setting ring

The aperture figures are standardized internation-
ally. They are selected so that the quantity of light
reaching the film is reduced by half each time you
stop down from one aperture value to the next.
One aperture level corresponds to one level on the
shutter speed setting dial (16).
In a similar way to the shutter speeds, you can feel
the aperture setting ring (13) click into place at
each value (on most lenses also at half values).
This means that, with a little practice, you can set
the aperture even in the dark.
The direction of rotation of the aperture setting
ring corresponds to the exposure meter displays
in the viewfinder. For example, if the left-hand
triangular LED is lit, turning in the direction of the
arrow, i.e. to the right, gives the required larger,
i.e. wider open aperture (lower aperture value).
For more details about setting the correct expo-
sure, refer to the section "Exposure metering" on
p. 94.
