Appendix B–Powering RSX Using 9 Vdc Battery
This appendix provides steps for using a 9 Vdc battery to temporarily power the RSX. This is helpful during
site survey situations where RSXs can be easily placed at various locations in a building. While the RSX is
designed to run primarily using 24 Vac power, a 9 Vdc battery can also be used to provide temporarily
power. When powered from a 9 Vdc battery, an RSX runs for approximately 4 to 6 hours.
Follow these steps to power the RSX using a 9 Vdc battery:
1. Create a cable using appropriate wires and connectors to connect the 9 Vdc battery to RSX as follows:
Connect the positive (+) battery terminal to the "H" terminal on the RSX 24 Vac power connector.
Connect the negative (-) battery terminal to the "N" terminal on the RSX 24 Vac power connector.
You can obtain 9 Vdc battery snap connectors with red (+) and black (-) leads from an electronics
store (such as those sold by Radio Shack—part number 270–324).
2. Connect the cable to the 9 Vdc battery and 24 Vac power connector on the RSX.
