Engine

Read the engine operation and maintenance manuals before starting or doing any maintenance on the engine.

Engine Room Ventilation System

• Use of the blower system is NOT A GUARANTEE that explosive fumes have been removed.
• BEFORE starting the engine, ALWAYS use the "sniff test" to check the bilge area for
fuel vapors.
• If you smell fuel, DO NOT start the engine and DO NOT turn On any electrical devices.
• If you smell fuel and the engine is already running, shut Off the engines and/or generator
and turn Off all electrical devices. Investigate immediately.
• DO NOT obstruct or modify the ventilation system.
• The bilge blower removes explosive fuel fumes
from the engine compartment.
• Fresh air is drawn into the compartment through
the deck vents.
• The bilge blower switch is at the helm.
To make sure the engine compartment is ventilated
with fresh air, run the bilge blower:
• For at least four minutes before starting
the engine.
• During starting.
• Anytime your boat is running below
cruising speed.
