5. CHUCK POWER SUPPLY WITH COMPRESSED AIR

!
NOTE: The power supply with compressed air (clamping and unclamping of the workpiece) can be
performed at stopped spindle only.
!
NOTE: The delivered airflow must be clean, undamped and lubricated.
5.1

Clamping of the workpiece

The airflow transmitted into the distributor ring
'clamping' chamber is causing a deformation of the
profile seal whilst sealing the gap between ring and
chuck body, next the air is flowing through a non-return
valve – resulting in:
■ Connection of the cylinder 'unclamping' chamber
with the atmosphere,
■ Air transmission into the cylinder 'clamping'
chamber and displacement of the cylinder piston
permanently connected with drawbar, which drives
the master jaw via the wedge system,
■ Two-angle
displacement with two speeds:
– rapid idle stroke (long jaw stroke),
– slow motion (short jaw stroke).
The workpiece is now clamped.
The compressed air supply cut-off in the distributor
chamber is resulting in:
■ Profile seal returns to its initial position (profile
seal moves away from the surface of the chuck
body),
■ Non-return valve cuts-off the connection of the
power supplied chamber with distributor ring,
■ Non-return valve maintains the pressure in
the cylinder chamber (after power cut-off, the
air in the chamber is under pressure).
The workpiece is clamped and ready for machining.

Unclamping of the workpiece

The airflow transmitted into the distributor ring

■ Two-angle

displacement with two speeds:

– rapid idle stroke (long jaw stroke).
The workpiece is now unclamped.
The compressed air supply cut-off in the distributor
