RETURNING THE ENGINE TO
SERVICE
1. Perform the Daily Checks on page 41.
2. Pre-oil the engine before you start it. Check for
proper engine oil level. Ensure that the engine
will not start. Crank the engine every 20
seconds for two minutes to circulate oil
throughout the lubrication system.
3. Prime the fuel system. See Priming The Fuel
System on page 34.
4. Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle for
approximately 15 minutes while you check for:
(a) Proper oil pressure
(b) Fuel, engine oil, or coolant leaks
(c) Proper operation of the indicators and / or
gauges
5. Avoid prolonged operation at minimum or
maximum engine speeds and loads for the
remainder of the first hour of operation.
