Replace Fuel Filter
A
DANGER
FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD!
• Diesel fuel is extremely flammable and
explosive under certain conditions.
• When you remove any fuel system
component to perform maintenance
(such as changing the fuel filter) place
an approved container under the
opening to catch the fuel.
• NEVER use a shop rag to catch the
fuel. Vapors from the rag are extremely
flammable and explosive.
• Wipe up any spills immediately.
• Wear eye protection. The fuel system
is under pressure and fuel could spray
out when you remove any fuel system
component.
• Failure to comply will result in death or
serious injury.
CAUTION
For maximum engine life, Yanmar
recommends that when shutting the
engine down, you allow the engine to
idle, without load, for five minutes. This
will allow the engine components that
operate at high temperatures, such as
the exhaust system, to cool slightly
before the engine itself is shut down.
Replace the fuel filter at specified intervals to
prevent contaminants from adversely affecting the
diesel fuel flow.

1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool.
2. Close the fuel tank cock.
Note: Fuel filter is replaced as an assembly
3. Remove the fuel filter (Figure 8, (1)) from the
support. When removing the fuel filter, carefully
hold it to prevent the fuel from spilling. Wipe up
all spilled fuel.
4. Clean the filter mounting surface and apply a
small amount of diesel fuel to the gasket of the

new fuel filter.
5. Install the new fuel filter into the support.
6. Prime the fuel system. See Priming The Fuel
System on page 34.
Check and Adjust Fuel Injection Valve
This adjustment requires special knowledge and

skill. Consult your authorized Yanmar industrial
engine dealer or distributor to adjust the idling
speed. This adjustment is needed to obtain the
optimum injection pattern for full engine
performance.
