While working in HUI mode in Pro Tools, engaging Edit Plug-ins will allow
Faders and Select buttons 1-4 to control the parameters and switches
of the focused plug-in. The scribble strip above each fader will display
the parameter that the fader and Select button are controlling.
Note: As of Pro Tools 8.0.5, Avid no longer supports new development for the HUI
protocol and has left HUI inside Pro Tools as a Legacy Protocol. Edit Plug-ins support
will vary greatly from plug-in developer to developer and may not work in some cases.
1. Press the Edit Plugins button.
2. Press SHIFT with the Select button for the channel you'd like view.
Note to FaderPort 16 Users: Due to the limitations of the HUI protocol, you can only
access the plugins for the first 8 channels of a 16 channel bank. In order to access
channels 9-16, for example, you will have to move the bank over by single channels
to shift the banks to 9-16 and 17-24.
3. In Pro Tools, click on the plug-in you'd like to edit.
4. Use the Pan/Param encoder to encoder to toggle
between displaying inserts 1-4 or insert 5.
5. Press select under the plug-in you'd like to edit. Press the Pan/
Param knob to return to insert view. Use the Pan/Param knob to
scroll through differing parameter pages when applicable.
Power User Tip: Use the VCA button will show or hide the selected plugin in Pro Tools.
6. Using the faders and Select buttons to change parameter values and states.
Press the Bypass button to bypass the focused plugin.
Press the Macro button to compare plug-in changes.
Press the Link button to change plug-ins. The Link button will flash, press the Select
button under the plug-in you would like to change. Then use the Pan/Param knob to
cycle through plug-ins. Press the Pan/Param knob to confirm the selection.
